21 - Races

Races

This is nowhere near finished, just adding some work in progress and ideas. For now only human is considered playable, though I don't have any traits for him to choose yet.

Anatomy of a Race

A race consists of Minimum stats that you have to buy up from the 15 stat points, so a higher min stats means you have to spend more of your stat points. This is considered a slight disadvantage in that you have less versatility in choosing stats, but not a major one as all stats are useful. This leans many races in specific directions.

Speed rating, is how fast that race is on foot. This limits how far they can Charge and Run, as well as how many Move actions they can take in a round.

Race Abilities are traits you start with, if any. In most cases these are abilities that the race has learned to adapt to their preferred environment or other cultural abilities.

Lastly a race unlocks the racial traits for that race. You also usually get to pick one straight away. You can then later when gaining a trait take a Racial Trait in the same way as other traits.

Human

  • Versatile: Gain 1 Trait General

No decided races past humans yet, but working on some sample races to define how I want them to work mechanically.

Elf

Wood Elf
  • Forestry

Sun Elf
  • Magic Strike
  • Cantrip: Light
Dark Elf
  • Cave Crawling
  • Night-vision

Dwarf

  • Endurance +1
  • Speed -2
  • Night Vision
  • Protection Poison
  • Sub-Race: Hill or Mountain
Hill Dwarf
  • Mountaineering
  • Protection Fire
Mountain Dwarf
  • Cave Crawling
  • Protection Magic
