North American Open

<Back>

Hungry rookies attend hoping to defeat the reigning champion Raven. Due to Raven's mystical ability to avoid defeat, many prestigious opponents avoid this tournament for fear of humiliation.
- In-game description

Welcome

<Player> has entered the North American Open. This feisty newcomer has a great deal to prove before facing Raven, our reigning champion.
- Pre-match commentary
<Player>, Stacy and Gracy will be mixing it up in <Arena>. Although Stacy and Gracy are quite cordial, we still expect an action packed match.
- Match description

A fairly straightforward three-HAR brawl. The only tricky thing the AI does is react to whether you win or lose (and whether or not you destroy either of them); losing the first round makes them ignore you in the second, winning makes them not want to hurt each other, destroying either of them makes them both hate you, and losing after winning resets them back to normal AI.

Intro dialogue

Gracy Welcome <Player>!
Stacy Yea, welcome, we'll try to take it
easy on you.

Player destroyed Stacy

Stacy EEWWWW, I AM SO FURIOUS!
That's it. Lets get <him/her>
Gracy I'm with you sis.

Player destroyed Gracy

Gracy NO WAY! We can't let <him/her>
get away with this!
Stacy You're right.
We have to get nasty!

Player lost

Stacy Sorry we played so rough with you.
That's just bad manners.
Gracy Stacy's right.
That's no way to treat a newcomer.
We'll take it easier on you this time.

Player won

Stacy <Player>, you're tougher
than I thought.
Gracy Yea, <Player>'s mean,
let's rip <him/her> apart.

Player lost after having won

Stacy <Player> has learned
<his/her> lesson!
Gracy You can go ahead and
give up now you big baby!

Post-match commentary

If you win:

Few expected <Player> to win this match. We'll have to keep an eye on <him/her>.

If you lose:

<Player> put up a good fight for a newcomer, but just couldn't pull through.

Wild Science

<Player>, Dr. Lithius and Professor square off in <Arena>. Rumors within the scientific community suggest a strong rivalry between Dr. Lithius and Professor, but we're certain they will have a clean fight.
- Match description

Slightly less straightforward; Lithius coats you and the Professor in acid, causing you to slowly lose health over time. You may want to prioritize Lithius as a result.

For the first round, Lithius will ignore you in favour of the Professor, while the Professor will try to fight both of you evenly. If you win, Lithius will focus on you and ignore Professor, while Professor will focus on Lithius and ignore you. If you lose, they'll both ignore you and focus on each other.

Intro dialogue

Dr. Lithius Ahh… peculiar mixture, an
unknown element, and Dr. Frankenstein.
Where are your minions?
Professor Lithius! I have no time for
your petty, egocentric rhetoric.
My work has life, my work IS life.
Yours is fruitless… impotent.
Dr. Lithius IMPOTENT! Dangerous maybe, but IMPOTENT…
I have a little concoction here that
will show you how powerful my work is!
Notification Lithius has somehow covered <Player> and the Professor in some kind of… Acid.

Player won

Dr. Lithius How… <Player> must have
some antidote. Somehow <he/she>…
Professor You are pathetic Lithius,
your chemical cocktail cannot overcome
the will of a living being.
Dr. Lithius Shut-up freak show, I'll show
<Player> real power now!

Player lost

If Lithius scored:
Dr. Lithius How's that for power. Even your
circus freaks can't stand against that!
Professor Go ahead and use your cheap chemistry
class failures all you want Lithius!
You are still going to lose this battle.
If Professor scored:
Professor Unimpressive Lithius. You are not
fit to be a bartender, much less a scientist.
Dr. Lithius Bartender! Well, at least I can
keep my creations under control…
Well, most of the time…

Post-match commentary

If you win:

Even with the metal being eaten away from <his/her> HAR, <Player> dropped the hammer on Dr. Lithius and Professor.

If you lose:

<Player> should feel no shame. Dr. Lithius's fiendish experiment just did <him/her> in.

Intensity

The third match of the North American Open should be interesting as <Player> passes expectations and pushes forward.
- Match description

A four-way match featuring Suki, Velocity, and Brick. No AI tricks in this match; everyone will fight everyone else no matter who scored last.

Intro dialogue

Suki Sweet, I'm gonna run circles around
you guys.
Brick Don't count on it, little girl.

Player won

Suki WHOA, that was smooth <Player>!
Now I see how you got this far.
Velocity Just luck, we'll leave <him/her> in
the dust this time.

Player lost

If Suki scored:
Suki That's right, too slow!
If Velocity scored:
Velocity Ha, left you in the dust.
If Brick scored:
Brick You have no power.

Post-match commentary

If you won:

That was intense. <Player> manages to surge ahead, with an eye for the title!

If you lost:

<Player> just couldn't stand up to the speed and power in this match.

Sabotage

Spike has been boasting about his skills, and his record lately is impressive. Let's see if he can topple veterans Jormund and Sato, not to mention the rising star <Player>.
- Match description

A four-way brawl with Spike, Jormund, and Sato that opens with explosions before the first round even begins. These explosions don't do a huge amount of damage, but still knock a decent chunk of health off. Jormund and Sato will prioritize Spike for his treachery (in every round); if you win a round, Spike will detonate another bomb on you and focus on you while Jormund will ignore you (Sato will still prioritize Spike, but due to either a typo or a copy-paste error, Jormund is told to ignore you twice instead of both Jormund and Sato getting the instruction).

Intro dialogue

Jormund There is no challenge here, I will
crush you all!
Spike Don't count on it, Jormund.
I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Notification Illegal load attempt…Security measures failed.
Jormund (explosion)
You alliance scum are all the same…
Sato (explosion)
Sabotage!
You have no honor, Spike!
Player (explosion)

Player lost

If Spike scored:
Spike LOSERS, HaHaHaHa!
You don't have what it takes for the
big show.
Jormund This is an outrage!
Spike Who cares, old man, I won.
If Jormund scored:
Spike You're nothing old man! NOTHING!
I don't care what your friends at Saber say.
Jormund Be carefull there.
You don't seem to know who you're insulting.
Spike Oh I know who I'm insulting.
And I think the security forces at
Iron Fist would be interested even more!
Jormund You're in over your head!
Don't play in jungle if you can't take on the tigers!
If Sato scored:
Spike YEAH, that's what you get rookie!
Sato Spike is a disgrace to us all.
Do not emulate his behavior!
Jormund Don't worry, you can try again.
I think it is time that Spike
was given a brisk ethics course, by me!

Player won

Jormund Even with dirty tricks you can't win Spike.
Spike You're going down this time <Player>!
Player (explosion)
Sato Coward! You disgrace yourself and the sport!
Jormund That's it Spike!
I'm taking you down, boy!

Player lost after having won

Spike LOSER, HaHaHaHa!
You're starting to embarrass yourself!
Jormund Get some class vulture!
Spike Oh, maybe the Saber Vice President
will buy me some like she did for you
convict!

(Inaccessible) Player won after having won

Spike This isn't over.
You're gonna pay!

Post-match commentary

If you destroyed Spike:

Spike has caused a breach in the transfer agent, and has highjacked <Player> into an unsanctioned match, often known as a grudge match. This should be interesting as it will cost Spike the right to fight in the World Open.

If you won:

Spike's sabotage couldn't stop <Player>.

If you lost:

Spike's treachery was despicable, how can anyone stand against that.

Vendetta

Spike was humiliated by <Player>, and the tension is high as they enter <Arena>.
- Match description

Technically a three-way battle with Spike and Ciaran, but they aren't interested in fighting each other. You can only fight this match if you destroyed Spike during the previous match.

Intro dialogue

Spike Get ready for pain!
I'm gonna hit you so hard,
your cortex gets burned.
Ciaran I'm here to make sure
the fight goes as it should.
Spike And the way it should be,
is that the rookie loses!

Player won

Spike It was pure luck.
This rookie is on a hot streak that's all.
Ciaran Now it's personal FREAK!

Player lost

Spike Get used to it,
this is going to be how you end every
match for a long time to come!
Ciaran What's that smell?
OH YEAH, FRIED ROOKIE! HaHaHaHaHahaha.

Raven

<Player> has astounded everyone. In <his/her> first tournament <he/she> has risen above some truly gifted fighters and hardened veterans. <Player> has earned the right to enter <Arena> and face Raven.
- Match description

A one-on-one fight with Raven, who can't be killed except by super moves. Winning bumps his AI level up by 1, but only for the next round; losing makes it drop down again.

Intro dialogue

Raven You're going to lose, this tournament is
mine. It's a… tradition.

Mid-battle dialogue

Hitting Raven when his health is gone, but without using a super move, causes him to cycle through these five lines in an attempt to hint the player towards his vulnerability:

My ancestor's power shields me.
You strike as wind against rock.
You must focus if you hope to defeat me.
Only superior will and strength can harm me.
Your spirit lacks energy.

Player won

Raven Good!
You fight with more than anger
and greed. This honors us both.

Player lost

Raven You have not been properly trained.
Maybe you should return to the training ring.

Victory

<Player> has astounded everyone. Defeating Raven is a difficult task on any day. To do it during the North American Open is unprecedented.
